October 2026 brought urgent Drupal core security releases alongside routine patches, a CMS maintenance update, and a new Drupal 12 beta. Drupal, the open-source system for building websites, issued versions 11.4.10, 11.3.19 and 10.6.19 to fix a critical Field UI flaw plus cross-site scripting issues.
Site owners face a clear priority: patch the October 14 releases first, then finish routine upgrades. Teams still on older branches need to move to a supported version before December. The month also clarified the path to Drupal 12.

What did the October 14 security releases fix?
According to Drupal.org, the October 14 releases fix critical Field UI remote code execution tracked as SA-CORE-2026-014 advisory. The flaw carries CVE-2026-108097 and a risk score of 19 out of 25. Drupal.org urges immediate updates to 11.4.10, 11.3.19 or 10.6.19.
Drupal.org lists two additional fixes in the same releases for the Link module and Navigation module. Both allow cross-site scripting and are rated moderately critical. They are tracked as SA-CORE-2026-015 and SA-CORE-2026-016.
Who is most exposed?
According to Pantheon Docs, the October core security update notes Drupal core alone is not directly exploitable for the Field UI flaw. Risk rises when certain contributed modules are present.
One known path needs no authentication. Teams that cannot patch at once can lower risk fast. Pantheon Docs points to one temporary mitigation.
- Uninstall Field UI until patching is complete
- Audit contributed modules for Field UI exploit paths
- Patch to the October 14 release for your supported branch
What else shipped in October?
Drupal.org published 11.4.9 on October 9 as a production-ready patch. It fixes sidebar navigation layout shift, CKEditor configuration and an editor library update. It does not include the October 14 security fixes. Drupal.org also published 12.0.0-beta2 on October 14.
It incorporates the three core security fixes. It remains beta for compatibility and upgrade testing, not production use. The Drop Times reports CMS maintenance release 2.2.4 arrived October 12. It removes several default Composer dependencies and adds compatibility checks for third-party site templates. It also limits telemetry names.
What should you upgrade before December?
Drupal.org shows sites on 11.2.x and below or 10.5.x and below get no October security fix because they are end-of-life. Supported 10.6.x and 11.3.x coverage ends in December 2026, while 11.4.x runs to June 2027.
According to Digital Matters, the Drupal 12 upgrade outlook points to reaching Drupal 11.4 now before Drupal 12 stable. Drupal 12 stable is expected the week of December 7, 2026. Drupal 12 will refuse updates from Drupal 11.2 or earlier.
